Volunteer Spotlight: Giving Back Through Volunteering
Kerry volunteering at Food Bank
At Restore Northampton, our volunteers are at the heart of the community we are building. Their time, compassion and willingness to serve help create a welcoming space for everyone who comes through our doors. This month, we’re delighted to shine a spotlight on Kerry, a dedicated Food Bank volunteer who has been faithfully serving for several years.
A Commitment That Began in 2019
Kerry began volunteering with Restore in 2019, before the pandemic, and has continued ever since. Over the years she has become a valued member of the Food Bank team, consistently giving her time and energy to support others in the community.
Choosing to Use Her Time Well
When asked what first prompted her to volunteer, Kerry shared a refreshingly honest answer. While working part-time, she realised she wanted to do something more meaningful with her spare time rather than, as she puts it, “doom scrolling on my phone whilst drinking tea.” Volunteering at Restore gave her the opportunity to use that time in a way that helps others.
Seeing Things Differently
Kerry speaks warmly about her experience of volunteering and the difference it has made in her perspective:
“I love it. It’s amazing. I am so pleased and proud to be a part of it.”
She also shared how volunteering has helped shape the way she sees people and situations:
“It makes you realise and be grateful for what you have yourself. And even though I am not religious, it’s taught me how to look at things through God’s eyes and not my own, being non-judgemental. It’s made me look at things in a different light.”
Encouraging Others to Get Involved
Kerry is passionate about encouraging others to volunteer if they have the time:
“Yes, anyone that’s got spare time should do it. It’s so nice being part of the Restore team and I’m grateful to be able to give my time to a place such as Restore.”
We are incredibly grateful for Kerry and for every volunteer who chooses to give their time to support others. Your commitment helps make Restore Northampton a place of welcome, care and community.
Get Involved
If Kerry’s story has inspired you, why not consider volunteering with us? Whether you can give a few hours a week or support one of our projects in other ways, there is always room for more people who want to make a difference.
Together, we can continue to build community and bring hope to those who need it most.
