OUR STORY

Re:store’s initial project, Northampton Food Bank was established by Central Vineyard Church in 2009. This birthed the outreach of the church that desires to make a difference with acts of compassion, kindness and love. In the first year 35 bags of food were distributed, but since 2013 an average of 4,000 adults and children are supported through Northampton Food Bank each year.

By 2013, Re:store had developed strong partnerships with additional community and faith groups across Northampton to deliver unified accessible services for those facing food poverty across the week in multiple locations.

The most significant step forward was developing a community space where people could belong and receive support, beyond that moment of crisis - where they could stay for a cuppa or a free hot meal alongside collecting their food parcel and be listened to. This “HUB” was so impactful it again was replicated in the Food Bank points across the town, and a network of community spaces was birthed, which still exists today.

Over the coming years, Re:store explored opportunities to address emerging needs related to poverty, including DIY projects to support those in substandard accommodation, cookery courses to help people cook nutritious meals on a budget, the ALLOTMENT to empower individuals to grow their own food and a variety of short courses for adults out of employment to build skills and confidence.

In 2014, Re:store began to respond to a felt need of families accessing the services. 1/4 children in Northampton were recorded to be living in poverty, and over the following few years free services for families in the town declined at a shocking rate, including many library services and Surestart Children’s Centre’s closing their doors. In partnership with like-minded family focused charities and local health professionals, Re:store has stepped in this gap and provided a range of projects focused on 0-5yrs and their families, including The Nest and Growbaby.
